Currently in the garden we have carrots, peas, snow peas, shallots, herbs, capsicum, potatoes, spinach, broccoli and some corn that I don't think will make it higher than about 6 inches (which is okay because they were grown from plants that sprouted in the compost bin!).The carrots were planted quite thickly, so have needed thinning out. We do a little of this each day, with Annie pulling out 4-5 carrots (each about 5cm long), washing them and eating them. The snow peas and peas have been flowering for the past couple of weeks and we saw our first pea pods on Sunday.
The pumpkin vine died off and left us with two pumpkins that will become soup one day. The capsicum plants look sad but still bear some fruit (that Annie picks and eats straight from the plant) so they can stay a bit longer.
Yesterday, as we filled a couple of polystyrene boxes to use as planter boxes for some broccoli seedlings Annie happily looked at me and said "Mum, we are gardeners." She followed this comment up with "Callum is a Nintendo-er" since he was inside having his second Nintendo day of the school holidays.
Annie is not afraid to get her hands dirty. Quite dirty. She loves to dig and play in the mud. She is my little gardener.
